About the event

Miklós Antal will present on “The feasibility of working time reductions: labour market segmentation by practical work conditions

In this webinar, we present new empirical research on the real-world conditions that shape when and how working time reductions (WTRs) can be implemented. Drawing on a representative survey of the Hungarian workforce (N=1,016), we identify six statistically distinct workforce clusters: “externally controlled,” “presence-based,” “overworked,” “mobile,” “relaxed,” and “self-exploited.” Discussing the motivational, political, and practical aspects of feasibility for each, we argue that the feasible types of WTRs differ radically across the clusters. The findings invite a debate on the implications for policy design, collective bargaining, and workplace reform.
