In this webinar we will describe the conduct and results of the 15 month trial of a four-day week at South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) in 2023-24. We will show the effects of the experimental 20% reduction in working hours on employee wellbeing, the performance of the council, the ability to recruit and retain staff, etc.
While using the same model as other trials of the 4dw, this case was of particular importance and relevance for a number of reasons. The longitudinal performance data for this large employer, primarily in terms of 24 KPIs, was more detailed and rigorous than for most other 4dw trials. A separate Health and Wellbeing survey was also very extensive with three sets of data (before, after three months and after one year) making it probably the most comprehensive longitudinal study of its kind of one organisation’s transition to a four-day week.
With the recent change of UK government, there is an expectation that other public sector organisations in the UK may emulate SCDC’s shift to a four-day work week.
